Community Involvement

Being involved in the community is a large part of the "Caratel philosophy."  It is hoped that by giving back to the community in which we live - locally, regionally, and nationally - we will have a larger impact on our collective future. Examples of Caratel's ongoing community involvement are included below.  Clicking on the associated logos will bring you to the organization's web site where you can lean more and donate yourself.FLS BTR 2008 Bike MS logo

Take Stock in Children is part of a state wide program that helps low-income children succeed by providing college and vocational scholarships, volunteer mentors, student advocates/case managers, tutoring, early intervention and long-term support, high standards, parental involvement, and community support.

The program is one solution to one of the most critical problems facing Florida -- high dropout and high youth crime rates.  Take Stock in Children has a proven record of helping low-income children graduate from high school, attend college, stay out of trouble, and become productive citizens.

It is a public-private partnership of state government, businesses, school systems, social service agencies, civic and religious organizations, and private citizens that has made a measurable difference in the lives of low-income children.

Take Stock in Children programs are established in every Florida county where they are managed by local educational, social service, and community and youth organizations.

  • Barry's has raised thousands of dollars for the Leukemia and  Lymphoma Society.

Leukemia is the #1 disease killer of children and the leading fatal malignant disease of men and women under age 35.  Although the cause of leukemia remains unknown, recently developed treatments and steady advances in research bring us closer to a cure each day.  These research advances were only achieved as a result of contributions made by companies, foundations and individuals.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services.

Barry completed the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Hike for Discovery program which culminated with a hike into the Grand Canyon in May 2006 and helped the South Florida chapter raise over $85,000 for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma research and patient programs.  Caratel and many of it clients and friends have donated generously to this endeavor.team in training

In June 2007 Barry raised additional funds for the Society's Team in Training program.  With this program, Barry's ongoing efforts to raise funds to help eliminate blood cancers culminated in one-day, 100-mile bicycle ride around Lake Tahoe in "America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride."
